Static Code Testing: No Longer an Option?

Wed. October 31| 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM | 208B

Conference: ESC Minneapolis 2018

Track: ESC Track B: Embedded Software Design & Verification

Format: 45-Minute

Pass Type: Conference Pass (Paid)

We all know that static code testing is a requirement in extremely high-reliability or security applications, but what about in more common applications like the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)? This session will look at the hazards of relying on dynamic testing only in today's embedded systems, as well as examples of static code tools from a number of vendors. The session will also include demos of some of these tools. We will also compare the user interface of these tools, from standalone systems to fully IDE-integrated. A number of case studies will be examined to show where static code can work alongside good coding practice to write more secure and stable code. We will also look at a couple of the open source tools that are available and compare some of their features and weaknesses.
