Selecting the Best Embedded Hardware For Your Product Design

Thu. November 1| 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM | 208C

Conference: ESC Minneapolis 2018

Track: ESC Track A: Embedded Hardware Design & Verification

Format: 45-Minute

Pass Type: Conference Pass (Paid)

Traditionally, "Make or Buy" referred to the choice made between designing custom hardware with a microprocessor, or using a System-on-Module for the processor and memory, and designing a simple mezzanine board for the SOM. Today, the explosion of Single Board Computers, Maker Boards, and Vendor evaluation boards with pre-configured software make it extremely easy to get started and create prototypes of new products. When moving from production, the choice between using a board or SOM has pros and cons for each approach.

In this session, we will consider the benefits of each approach and provide a systematic process for considering the factors required for your product's success, and how these should drive the design decisions for your next product.
